The incident, which took place late Sunday, has cast a heavy shadow over rescue efforts already stretched thin by some of the worst flooding the state has seen in decades.
From Hero to Missing
According to eyewitness and survivor Tyler Grant, Beckham’s son was part of an all-volunteer team searching for stranded families along the banks of the Blanco River.
“The current was brutal,” Grant recalled, still visibly shaken. “I slipped, and before I knew it, I was being dragged under. He got to me, pulled me back to the rocks… but the next wave just took him. It happened so fast.”
Grant says that after pulling him to safety, Beckham’s son lost his own footing, was caught by a powerful surge, and disappeared downstream into debris-choked water.
A Family’s Private Agony
The Beckham family has not released an official statement beyond a brief note from a spokesperson, asking for privacy and prayers during “this deeply distressing time.”
Sources close to the family confirm that David Beckham himself is reportedly en route to Texas, determined to be near the ongoing search efforts.
A State in Crisis
Texas remains under a state of emergency as historic rainfall has triggered deadly flash floods, left entire towns underwater, and forced thousands to flee their homes. Volunteer rescue teams, like the one Beckham’s son joined, have become an essential lifeline as local resources struggle to keep up.
Sheriff Amanda Cole of Hays County, visibly emotional, told reporters:
“Politics and celebrity aside, this is about a young man who risked everything for someone he barely knew.”
A Survivor’s Tribute
Grant, whose life was saved in the harrowing moment, described Beckham’s son as fearless and selfless.
“He didn’t have to be there. But he was. And because of that, I’m still alive,” Grant said, his voice cracking.
